S. Department of the Interior. The original artwork was an acrylic painting by Daniel Smith of Bozeman, Montanna. Smith is a freelance artist who has earned many honors in the wildlife art world, from winning numerous state stamp design competitions to illustrating pages of National Geographic's Guide to North American Birds.
